Nyepi Day,Starting New Year with Silent


Nyepi is derived from the word sepi (lonely, silent). Nyepi Day is actually a celebration of New Year according to Hindu calendar / Saka calendar, which began in 78 AD. Unlike common New Year celebrations , Saka New Year in Bali starts with solitude. No activity as usual. All activities were eliminated, including public services, such as the International Airport was closed, but not for hospitals.

The main purpose Nyepi is pleading before God Almighty, to purify Buwana Alit (natural human / Microcosmos) and Buwana Agung / macrocosmos (the universe). Before Nyepi, there are several series of ceremonies performed Hindus, particularly in the area of ​​Bali.

Temple Rambut Siwi located in the seaside South West part of Bali island that is in the village of Yeh Embang Kangin, District Mendoyo, Jembrana. In the North of the temple more than 200 meters, lies the major highway Denpasar-Gilimanuk,where there is  penyawangan Pura Rambut Siwi. Here are usually if Hindus across the travel lane,they stopped to pray, to worship, and wish safety harness to the Almighty God. The distance from Denpasar city approximately 78 km, the journey there can be reached by car or motorbike. This temple is situated in the village of Mengwi, still in my district of Mengwi, Badung regency, which is approximately 18 km northwest of the city of Denpasar,Bali. This temple is one of pretending to be the most beautiful temple in Bali. The areas arranged in such a beautiful temple and surrounded by fish ponds. Built in 1634 by TheKing Mengwi of Mengwi at that time I Gusti Agung Putu, then restored in 1937. Decorated by Meru - Meru tower and majestic cater for both the ancestral kingdom and for the gods who praised in other Great Temple in Bali.
Because the distances of great Temples in Bali is far away from the kingdom, the kingdom built this temple to unify some of them in one place. So the people can pray to any Great Temple such as Pura Besakih just from here.
Beside that,Pura Taman Ayun Temple is also Paibon(temple to pray to the ancestors) for Mengwi kingdom. Every 210 days every Tuesday Kliwon Medangsia precisely,the whole Mengwi community,incuding the people in my palce, celebrates  piodalan for several days worshiping the Lord with all its manifestations at Pura Taman Ayun.

Temple complex is divided into 4 different yards, which one is higher than the others. The front yard called Jaba can be achieved only with the only bridge over the pool and the gate. Once inside there is a small monument to guard the entrance and on the right is the spacious building (Wantilan) which are often held cockfight when there is ceremonial . On this yard, there is also a memorial fountain that lead to 9 points of the compass. As we headed to the next step, on the right road there is a small temple complex of Pura named Luhuring Purnama.
To reach the next area, visitors must pass through the second gate. Once inside, the view will be fixed on the facade of a building Bale Pengubengan that  is decorated with reliefs depict Gods Nawa Sanga, (9 Gods guard cardinal directions). To the east of this page there is a small temple called Pura Dalem Bekak, where as in the west corner there is a tower of Kulkul ,a wooden bell.
Area into main area is the highest and most sacred. The central door of  Candi Gelung, a Bight gate, will be opened at a time when there is a ceremony, while the gate on the left  and right is is open everyday for activities in main area of the temple.
There are some of Meru, towering building with various sizes and shapes in the main area.

The different levels of this temple symbolizes the three levels of world cosmology, of which the bottom is the place for the human world, to a more sacred place of the the ancestors, and the latter represents a place of Almighty God . As told in ancient story Adhiparwa, the entire temple complex of  illustrates Mount Mahameru that float in a sea of ​​milk.

Pura Batur,a "Wife Temple" of Besakih

Pura Besakih is called Purusa, while Pura Pura Batur called Pradana.

Pura Batur, better known as Ulun Danu Batur lies at an altitude of 900 m above sea level precisely in the village of Kintamani, district Kalanganyar East of Denpasar-Singaraja road.

This temple is facing west with a backdrop of Mount Batur and Lake Batur black lava that stretched away at the foot of Mount Batur, complementing the natural beauty around the temple.

Prior to the present location, Pura Batur is located on the slopes of Mount Batur Southwest. Because the catastrophic eruption in 1917 which had destroyed everything, including this temple except a pelinggih ,at the highest area. Finally, thanks to the initiative of the village with village leaders, they bring pelinggih intact and rebuilt Batur Temple to place higher at the current location. Temple ceremony is celebrated every year called ngusaba Kedasa.

Pura Batur HISTORY

 Batur Temple was originally located at the foot of the mountain near the shores  Southwest of Lake Batur ,before the catastrophic eruption of Mount Batur in 1917, that destroyed 65 000 homes, 2,500 temples and more than thousands of lives. But a miracle to stop at the foot of Temple. People see this as a good sign and continued to stay there. In 1926 a new eruption covered the whole temple except the highest "Pelinggih" , the worship of God in the manifestation of Dewi Danu, the Goddess of the lake. Then the villagers insisted on placing it on higher ground and begin to rebuild their temple. They brought pelinggih intact and rebuilding Pura Batur.

Some ancient book tells Bali sacred origin of Pura Batur, which is part of the "Sad Kahyangan",the six greatest Temple, that there are six groups of temples in Bali are listed in Literature Widhi Sastra,  Raja Purana Sastra and Chronicle of Pasek Kayu Selem. Pura Batur also expressed as "Kahyangan Jagat 'which means owned by the general public.

History Pura Batur are offerings to the Goddess of Fertility, Dewi Danu. She is the Goddess of the lake Batur. Mineral-rich water flowing from Lake Batur, flowing from one rice terraces to the other, slowly down to earth. Enterprises in the palm of Bali, one of the sacred literature which was placed in the temple, there is an ancient legend which describes the composition of the throne of Goddess Danu.

One night early in the fifth month God Pasupati (Siwa) move the peak of Mount Mahameru in India and divide it into two parts. Brought one part with his left hand and the other with his right hand. Both parts of the mount were used to be throne. Parts of which were taken with his right hand became Mount Agung a throne for his son  God Putranjaya  (Mahadeva Shiva) and the other mount parts in his left hand became Mount Batur a throne of  Dewi Danu, the Goddess of Lake. This legend made the 2 biggest mountains in Bali and two symbolic elements "of men and women" (Purasa and Pradana) or two manifestations of the origin of the source; God (Ida Sang Hyang Widhi Wasa).

Identification and Attractiveness
 The name Pura Batur comes from the name  Mount Batur and Lake Batur. This is one of  temple in  Sad Kahyangan support by Villagers of Batur.
Before the eruption of Mount Batur in 1917, Pura Batur situated at the foot of Mount Batur Southwest side. Due to the damage caused by the eruption of Mount Batur, then Pura Batur with the villagers moved in place now. Remnants of frozen lava black, erect towering Mount Batur, Lake Batur shaded blue, is a magnet for every visitor. Penelokan can be viewed from Lake Batur and his blue bubbles waves that accompany the driver pulled over boat while serving tourists and commuters of the crossing  village Kedisan to village  Trunyan. The fishermen are also coloring activity at Lake Batur fished a catch tilapia sold in the market town of Bangli, so in Bangli known its "sate mujair" which is characteristic of food in Bangli district.
