Pura,The Balinese Temple

Pura is a term for a Hindu place of worship in Indonesia. Pura in Indonesia, is concentrated mainly in Bali as an island which has a Hindu majority population.



The words "Pura" actually comes from the Sanskrit word endings (-pur,-puri,-puram,-pore), which means it is the city, the fortified city or town with a tower or a palace. In use developments on the island of Bali, the term "Pura" to be specific to a place of worship, while the term "Puri" being specifically for the residence of the kings and nobles



"Pura Sad Khayangan"



Pura Sad Khayangan", are the six main temple which, according to people's confidence in Bali is the island of Bali joints. They are located at six direction of the island. Mostly built by Dhang Hyang Nirartha,  a Javanese Hollyman man that across to Bali Island to spread the Hindu Religion. Balinese society in general considers the following as pretending Sad Khayangan:



1. Pura Besakih, in Karangasem regency.

2. Pura Lempuyang Luhur, in Karangasem regency.

3. Pura Goa Lawah, in Klungkung regency.

4. Pura Uluwatu, in Badung regency.

5. Pura Batukaru, in Tabanan regency.

6. Pura Pusering Jagat, in Gianyar regency.



In addition to pretending to Sad Kyayangan Temples mentioned above, there are many other temples of the various places on the island of Bali, according to one nickname Pulau Seribu Pura (Island with Thousands Temple).
